Orbit had six products drifting apart. The work was less about new design than about deciding what was already true.
The challenge
What stood in the way
Four teams, four spacing scales, and no shared vocabulary for anything above the component level.
The approach

We audited every surface, reduced 41 type styles to 9, and wrote the rationale next to each decision so it would survive us.
Design direction
The language we committed to
One grid, a nine-step type scale, gold reserved for state, and specimen cards that double as documentation.
Final outcome
Where it landed
A living system adopted across all six products within a quarter.
